Speed Gas can help you maintain a perfect pH balance in your pool using food grade carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. When the carbon dioxide is diffused in water it forms a mild and safe acid, namely carbonic acid. This acid works just as effectively as the more dangerous mineral acids, plus it forms a natural bicarbonate buffer to stabilise the pH level.
Carbon dioxide is safe gas but is classed as a Dangerous Good (DG 2.2) which means that it is non-toxic and non-flammable. Carbon Dioxide is supplied to swimming pools in cylinders under pressure and because of this and that Co2 is heavier than Air when using Co2 in this environment monitoring of the area is required.
Co2 is used in swimming pools to help stabilise the pH balance. Incorrect pH levels will affect the disinfectant power of your chlorine as well as the health, safety and enjoyment of swimmers using your pool. Ultimately this will also impact the business in higher running costs from increased chemical and maintenance costs. The Australian Standard (AS) 3633-1989 recommends that pH be maintained between 7.0- 7.8.
